Fridays In France {Gap - the Cardinales & heading to Nice}

We were so blessed to be able to stay with the remarkable Cardinale family while we were staying in Gap.  They generously welcomed us with amazing food, our own bedrooms (complete with filled candy dishes), and the use of their car.

Seriously, authentic Italian lasagna is unlike any other!  And the portions were giant!

Breakfast usually consisted of Brioche and jam, and of course chocolat chaud (hot chocolate).

This beast of a cat was called Chatouia.   He was very cantankerous, but would tolerate Megan's affection.  She could barely lift him.

The night before we left, there was a feast of epic proportions.  Two of Marie's three kids and their families came, as well as the neighbor Madame Bullah (sp?) who was equally attached to John.

Bryson set a family record by eating about 10 of these AMAZING arancini.  These things - - there are no words.  So delicious!

If you look closely, Angela's husband (far left) looks just like Liev Shreiber.

The next morning it was time to say goodbye.

Angela's girls are so darling!

This is David. He was the one that challenged Bryson to keep eating those arancini...

Marie loved both of the kids.  She particularly fell in love with Megan.  The gloves and hat were a gift that she sweetly went out and got for Meg.

Megan had to say goodbye to the cat.

A shot looking back at the house

One last photo at the train station.  It's never easy for John or the Cardinales to say goodbye.  Such a great bond...

Marie had sent us off with a bag of fruit from their yard.  Biggest apples I've ever seen.

We were off to our last destination: Nice.

We arrived that night and after checking in to our hotel, we went out to explore on the Promanade des Anglais.

And even though it was pitch black looking out to sea, we just had to go down the pebbley beach to the Med.

The sound of the waves and the water receding through the pebbles, is a distinctive sound that will ALWAYS take me back to Nice.

Nice.  It's such a beautiful place.  It's also the last city of our trip, so only one more Friday In France post...  Although, there are so many pictures, I may just break it up into two...  Time will tell I suppose.
