Gap, France. It holds a special place in John's heart. He and his companion opened the city, and while he was there he met a some Italians that adopted him into their families. I will do a separate post on the family. But Gap is beautiful. The air was so fresh and clean, and the city didn't smell like urine {bonus!}...
The day after we arrived, our hosts generously offered us the use of their car, so we decided to take a road trip up to Briançon. It is a steep hillside village that is full of charm and tiny alleyways.
I think this is some sort of watchtower, and it had a steep drop off on the other side of this wall.

...and of course they all had to stand on the edge.
This plaque commemorates the African soldiers that helped liberate the city from the Nazis.
There was an actual portcullis in this entrance. It's hard to see, but it was so amazing.
Cars will drive through this archway - it's amazing they don't crash.
When John was on his mission, he had hiked to the peak (there's a statue) and said it was really cool. This was part of our attempt to hike to the same spot. Unfortunately, after much trekking, we discovered that they had closed off the monument. We couldn't even get close enough for a decent picture.
I loved this spout for some reason. The fountains are all so decorative!
We had a really yummy lunch in this sweet square in the middle of the village.
We absolutely loved this place.
On the drive home, we stopped at this lake and had to go throw rocks in it - of course. This island church was so picturesque.
This is the home where we stayed in Gap. The Cardinale family was so generous and kind to let us stay for 2 nights!
My view from the patio off our room...

All of the men wear scarves in France. I convinced Bryson to buy one. He hasn't worn it since.
Chicken.
These statues were awesome.
There's just something about a colorful square...
This stripey church was so cool.
John was truly in heaven while we were visiting the Alps.
Au revoir!
