Day 8 - Heading to the Alpes {Gap}

Time to leave Marseille for good.

There is a beautiful view from the train station in Marseilles.  And these lion statues were cool too.

It's never easy to get a good shot of the countryside from the train...  Too bad gas is so expensive there or we might consider renting a car in the south.

It was a fairly long train ride to Gap, so lunch on the train it was!  And tons of snacks.  The old french couple across the aisle from us was a bit aghast at our stash.  (the French don't really snack much)

I'm pretty sure this is when Megan lost her hat.  See it on the hook above her?  I think that's the last time we saw it... :(

It really was a long train ride.

In Gap, we were going to be staying with an Italian family that became a 2nd family to John on his mission.  They fed him, bought him a coat, basically made sure he and his companions were cared for.  This family is seriously the best!  They fed us like kings, let us use their car for a day trip, and basically let us take over their upper floor for 2 nights.  So, so generous!  They fell in love with our kids like they had fallen in love with John 20 years earlier.

This is the view from the balcony of our rooms.

Dinner the 1st night.  Look at those lasagna portions!!!  And made by true Italians!  It was amazing.

After dinner, we went into town for a little exploring.

Bryson was imitating art.  These ladies were so beautiful!

 The colorful square.

This striped cathedral is gorgeous.

And as always, the attention to detail...  I just can't get over it.

Off to a great start in the Alpes!

Au Revoir!
