Bonjour! Welcome back to France! Time to leave Paris. Day three found us at the train station bright and early with a begniet and chocolat chaud (hot chocolate) - In all of the craziness of getting our tickets, we missed our 1st train, and had to go to a different train station about 35 minutes away to catch the TGV to our next city.

Our next stop was Carcassonne. But it was a good 4-5 hours away. So we got to enjoy some lovely countryside through the train windows.
Because of our later-than-intended departure from Paris, we arrived at our hotel at dusk. Hotel Terminus was just steps away from the train station (and was formerly the train station itsself), and was beautiful!! Definitely our most classically french hotel. The outside was gorgeous, and the interior did not disappoint either.
The lobby (sorry the picture is a little blurry)...
I'm so regretting not having gotten a picture of the ricketty elevator that took us up to our room. It maybe fit 2 people and 1 bag at a time. Next time, I will for sure get a picture of it.
The sketchy ride in the elevator was totally worth it. Our room was awesome! 2 rooms, 2 sets of french doors overlooking the town and park, original details... Definitely my favorite hotel of the trip.

After dropping off our luggage, we decided to walk up to the castle to see it lit up for the night.
Our first view of the castle. Carcassonne castle is this really cool medieval castle that sits imposingly overlooking the town.
They light it up so cool at night.
We headed up the hill to the outer walls.
We decided to go in and do a little exploring.
What's crazy is that people still live and work inside the castle. There are even hotels, so you could actually stay INSIDE. Very, very cool.
The size of this place is incredible. And it was just so cool to wander through the practically empty streets.
I was excited to be able to go back the next day to see it come to life...
