On Being the Mom

  • cuddling on the sofa watching more kid shows than i care to admit.  my kids are always shaking their head in pity when i quote from the kid shows like i used to quote seinfeld...
  • answering the same question over and over again - just in case the answer changed.
  • the warm hand slipped into mine as we walk anywhere.
  • playing catch. {and not embarrassing myself in the process}
  • watching with pride as your kids begin to excel at their chosen sport/activity.
  • listening to the kids belly laugh downstairs, knowing that they are probably doing something naughty, but not wanting to go see because it's so fun to hear that sound.
  • the horrible sound of silence when you KNOW they are up to no good.
  • the tiny promptings to ask the right question in the right moment.  the stronger promptings when you need to say no.
  • seeing a daughter grow right before your eyes
  • watching your son's shoulders fill out.  knowing how badly he wants to grow taller too.
  • getting to know each child.  learning their interests, personalities, sense of humor.
  • loving and accepting each child as a gift sent specifically to me to teach me important lessons.
  • agonizing over every major decision - just in case it's the one that messes them up for good.
  • having more love and joy in your heart - even through the really really hard stuff- than you ever dreamed possible.

I was just thinking about how much I miss my kids being young. Enjoy them and hug them a lot!! This is a great post for Mothers Day (week)!

I love the walk the moms take daily... and seeing this path through your eyes is everything beautiful..

You are so great at putting your thoughts down. I say amen to all of these.
